Come and See

What’s it like to Worship at Shepherd of the Sea?

Where is the church located?

Shepherd of the Sea is located at 201 East Fort Macon Rd, in Atlantic Beach, NC.

Coming over the Atlantic Beach Bridge, take a left at the light at the end of the causeway and the church is a block down on the left.

What is the parking like?

The church has a sizable lot adjacent to the building. Turn left on Center Dr., and then right into the parking lot.

The parking lot follows a circular pattern in order to fit the most cars efficiently.

Shepherd of the Sea also offers beach parking throughout the summer weeks as there is a public beach access two blocks away. There are signs with a QR code for free will donations for the use of our lot.

What is worship like?

When you walk into Shepherd of the Sea through the Red Doors, the Sanctuary (room where we hold Worship) will be on your right. There will be people there to greet you and give you a bulletin. This will be the readings for that Sunday to follow, along with a prayer list and announcements for the week. Once you enter the sanctuary, please feel free to take any available seat.

In the back of the pew in front you, you’ll find a worship booklet and a hymnal. The worship booklet is important as it outlines the service for you. All of the hymns can be found in toward the back of the cranberry hymnal. Our worship usually lasts about an hour and includes prayer, scripture, a sermon and the sacrament of Holy Communion. Our worship service is based in the ancient church liturgy, but we try new things often and like to bring new and interesting things into worship.

Our service is casual, people wear what they feel comfortable in whether that is shorts and flip flops right off of the beach or more dressed up for a special occasion.

The congregation at Shepherd of the Sea is a very friendly bunch, so expect a lot of handshakes and smiles.

If you have any questions about what to expect, please email us. Know that you will be welcomed and we would love to have you join us for worship!
